Our Veterinarians

Dr. George Stroberg

Medical Director, President

Dr. George Stroberg recalls riding his bicycle to open ponds in the Colorado wilderness during his childhood years growing up in Denver—there, he would collect tadpoles by hand and raise them into adult frogs, eventually releasing them back into the wild. For him, a love of animals and nature came quite naturally! He’s still living his dream to this day as the President and Medical Director of Animal Central Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Stroberg’s animal-care journey began in his high-school years, when he would spend early mornings of his senior year at his local veterinary clinic, cleaning the cages and mopping the floors before heading to class. He earned his veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 1977, then founded Animal Central Veterinary Clinic two years later.

In 2004, Dr. Stroberg helped to research and design the hospital’s current facility and has been helping the area’s pets and animal parents here ever since. He’s particularly fond of problem-solving through state-of-the-art diagnostic work, and he also loves the great variety of pets he’s able to treat—on any given day, Dr. Stroberg can find himself helping dogs, cats, birds, snakes, lizards, turtles, hamsters, and much more! He’s even undergone an in-depth fish-care course at the University of Georgia and is able to use his veterinary skills to treat pet fish.

At home, Dr. Stroberg and his wife share their lives with four Brussels Griffons and two yellow Labrador retrievers. Dr. Stroberg even takes his love of dogs all the way to Alaska—every year, he serves as a veterinarian for the canine competitors of the famous Iditarod Dog Sled Race!

Dr. Harvey Shaffer

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Harvey Shaffer grew up on a ranch in eastern Colorado, where a passion for animals of all sorts developed early on in life. As he got older, he became even more fascinated with surgical work and disease treatment. What better way to combine his medical interests and his adoration of animals, Dr. Shaffer thought, than by becoming a veterinarian?

After completing his undergraduate studies and earning his doctoral degree in veterinary medicine, Dr. Shaffer completed an internship at Oklahoma State University, focusing on small-animal medicine and surgery. He then returned to his home state of Colorado, beginning his private-practice career in 1974. Dr. Shaffer cared for pets and animal owners at his very own hospital for 35 years before selling the facility upon retirement. It wasn’t long, though, before the itch to help animals came back—Dr. Shaffer joined the Animal Central Veterinary Clinic as an Associate Veterinarian in the fall of 2016, and is now proud to serve the area’s animal companions as a member of the clinic family!

Away from the hospital, Dr. Shaffer loves going backcountry camping with his family and taking his horse, Wiskey, out on the trails.
